![]() From the moment we wake up, we are surrounded by technology, from our smart alarms that wake us up to our smartphones that keep us connected to the world. Technological advancements have become an integral part of our lives, infiltrating almost every aspect of our daily routine. The results indicated that those who reported more frequent technology use had lower levels of well-being and more negative affect. The study was conducted on a sample of 135 undergraduate students who completed surveys about their technology use and psychological well-being. The researchers also noted that excessive use of digital technology can lead to emotional problems, such as depression and anxiety. The above-mentioned study found that digital technology use can have a negative impact on cognitive functioning, including attention, memory, and creativity. One research study that suggests technology has negatively impacted the human brain is a 2014 study published in the journal PLOS ONE titled “The Impact of Digital Technology on Psychological Well Being: A View from the Perspective of Positive Psychology” by Alejandro Lleras and Atsunori Ariga. The question then arises, is it fair to say that our dependency on smart technologies is making us dumb? However, with the advent of technology, many argue that we have become overly dependent on smart devices and that this reliance is having a negative impact on our cognitive abilities. Our ancestors, without the luxury of smart devices, relied solely on their wits and intellect to survive and thrive. Throughout history, human beings have continuously evolved and adapted to changing circumstances, using their intelligence to overcome challenges and create new opportunities.
